Kinodrom Bocholt
A new multiplex cinema with catering
Situated on a prominent site in the city centre of Bocholt, the Cinema Centre’s facade design tries to set an antipole to those of the rather introverted cinema halls whose organization and design result purely from function.
Generous glazing of the affiliated functional areas brings them out into the street and in doing so creates a connection between inside and outside.
The nine cinema auditoriums with a total of approx. 1500 seats are basically arranged next to one another. Two smaller cinema auditoriums are stacked one above the other and a further cinema is placed above the double storey entrance hall so that the areas within the closed cubature can be put to best use.
A two storey restaurant was attached to the cinema, permitting a similar communicative connection between interior and outside spaces through its generous glazing. The entrance hall with its functional areas is placed where both building blocks overlap.
The facade represents an interrelation rich in tension between heavy closed brick surfaces and lightweight glass and metal elements. The prominent entrance roof works as an element of recognition for the building and has a signal effect.
Thus a cinema centre has been developed which, in contrast to many of the other newer multiplex cinemas, shows an unmistakable face and in doing so offers a high level of recognition.
For years now the population of Bocholt has shown its acceptance of the cinema, which shows that the concept has been endorsed and has proved itself.
