4 Star Hotel, Ratingen
A new hotel with underground parking

The building project is on the “Calor” site used by the company ABB until 2000 in the heart of Ratingen.
Once the previous owner had left, the entire area was given a new multi-functional use with a service centre, a retail trade centre, modern offices and a 4-star business hotel with 134 rooms.
The planning integrates the former head office of the AAB Company and supplements this with a new 5-storey building which compliments the urban planning by following the building block edge of the “Calor Emag” street.
The main entrance of the hotel is set back from the crossroads of “Calor Emag” street and “Wilhelmring”, and presents itself with a 2-storey glass façade to the street. The hotel rooms are in the upper floors connected by a typical central corridor structure.
The facade is reservedly planned in exterior plaster for this function. Rows of windows stress a horizontal arrangement along the street side.
By contrast the facade to the garden side is articulated by rectangular window openings in the upper floors, which rest on a different coloured pedestal.
A conference and events centre for 200 people with conference and seminar rooms and a wellness area complement the hotel use with functions which make the location attractive beyond just overnight accommodation.
The gardens were arranged according to the overall architectural conception, so that the external areas are integrated in the complete architectural idea.
