Biomass heating plant
New building, including local heating network in Essen | 2012
Nattler Architekten planned and built the EVV biomass heating plant on the Grugapark site. It provides 75% of the heat needed by the individual properties within the area. Wood chips from the Gruga and Essen forests are burnt in two biomass boilers in this way saving about 1,450 tons of carbon dioxide annually. The biomass heating plan was mainly built with renewable raw material. The building fulfils the requirements of the Federal Immission Control Act. This is a “tangible contribution to climate protection” for the City of Essen.
