House Marquette, Leipzig

New residential and retail trade building with underground car parking

The new building "Haus Marquette" is in the city centre of Leipzig, in direct proximity to the historically important Thomaskirche.

The building forms the end of an inner-city urban block and the southern edge of the Thomaskirche courtyard.

The building’s articulation has its origins in the subdivided plot structure of Leipzig’s city centre which is interpreted here in a modern form.

Traditional natural stone materials stress this articulation by giving each individual building element its own facade.

The building use is defined by a varied mix of retail space on the ground floor up to the second floor as well as offices on the third and fourth floors. The fifth and sixth floors are for residential use.

With this project a difficult historical site has been developed, which respects its situation appropriately and compliments it in a contemporary way.
